Planting Trees in Run Ta Ek

Run Ta Ek is a relatively new village for people resettled from the Angkor area. Work is in progress on infrastructure, schools, a pagoda and electricity. The most important thing now is the planting of trees, which will have two effects.

This will reduce the temperature and provide shade, and it will look much nicer from an aesthetic point of view.

We are very grateful to have been able to make a small contribution to this project. We would like to thank Christian de Boer of Jaya River Park and the Cambodian Rural Students Trust. They were the initiators of this project.

We have already planted more than 75 trees on the school grounds, but that is far from enough. They would like to plant hundreds of more trees outside the school grounds as well. They are unable to do this on their own. Therefore, we need to help them to achieve this. Please contact us if you can be a part of the planting of more trees in the village of Run Ta Ek. Computers donated to the Sunshine School

Cambodian Travel Partner recently upgraded their computer systems, leaving their old computers surplus to requirements. Recognizing the great need for technology in education, they generously decided to donate these computers to Han’s school.

The school already has a few computers for teaching, but more are always needed. Computers are essential tools in today’s world, and it is crucial for these young students to have access to them. For many of these students, this is their first encounter with computers. Most jobs now require computer skills, making it essential for them to develop proficiency. The teachers at Sunshine School offer lessons in Excel, Word, Photoshop, and other software programs to help students gain valuable computer experience.

If you have an old computer or laptop that is still in working condition and you would like to donate it, please get in touch with us. We will arrange for the donation to be delivered to Han at Sunshine School.

Happy 2022

Firstly, we would like to wish you a very happy and prosperous 2022.

Last year around this time we also sent out a mail to our donors and in the last sentence we wrote “We wish everyone a better 2021”. Now we’re a year further and there will undoubtedly be some people who had a much better 2021, but when I look at Cambodia and especially in Siem Reap, there are many people who are worse off.

More businesses in the tourism sector and its connected supply companies have lost their jobs. Thousands, even tens of thousands have lost their jobs. Wonderful businesses which had good futures are no longer operating. Many others are now facing major financial problems and it is still unclear when the situation will improve for them. Even though the borders have been open to tourists since December, we have welcomed very few. Tourists currently prefer to stay in their own country or close to home rather than go to long-haul destinations. Fortunately, our donors have remained loyal to us and in the past year we have again supported various projects.

As with every year, our special thanks go out to all our donors, friends and family who have contributed money, products or anything else. Without your invaluable help, the Lily Foundation could not help the people we do. We will end with the same words as last year: Nobody knows what 2022 will bring, but whatever happens, we will continue to help the less fortunate people in whatever way we can.

We wish everyone a better 2022.
